Over the years I have been using center punches to pre mark holes to be drilled into wood but always had an issue with the bit wandering on me still. One day I decided to grab off the rack a mini philips head screwdriver because I could not find the center punch. Turns out that I had made a discovery! Using a small screwdriver with its cross hairs actually makes lining up pencil lines easier! You can use the cross section on the intersection of two lines perfectly. The sharp tip allows for the philips head to easily dig into the wood. I also found that when using this technique that the drill bit does not wander off of my mark anymore. Give it a go and let me know how this works for you!
